Find IP Location And Host Name With IP Locator

IP Locator is a straightforward desktop utility which is developed to easily track IP-specific information, including, name of IP location, exact location (with latitude and longitude values), and host (owner) name. The application also integrates Google Maps to view the IP location. Apart from this, IP Locator includes an option to retrieve IP related information from whois server while allowing user to check ISP of the defined IP address.

The application usage is simple, all it requires you is to specify the IP address to find and map the IP location. From toolbar, click Add button and enter the IP you want to track. The application takes some time while locating the IP, information retrieved will be shown at the bottom of the window.

During testing, we found some interface-related glitches and problems with whois server integrated functionality, otherwise it is a fine little app. Testing was done on Windows 7 x64 system while it supports Windows XP/Vista/7.

Add Subtitles to Videos

When a video is hard to understand or in a foreign language, subtitles help viewers to understand the video—thus, more people will watch it. Plus, subtitles are essential for the deaf to understand videos. As an added bonus, subtitles have the potential to make a video index-able by search engines.
Adding subtitles to any online video is easy with Universal Subtitles.
logo
To start, enter the URL of the video you want to subtitle and click Go.
subtitle now
A window appears with your video’s thumbnail displayed. Directly beneath the video, click the Subtitle Me button.
subtitle me
Choose the original language of the video, and the language to which you are translating it. For our test, we subtitled a video already in English to English. While this seems redundant, deaf English speakers/readers will appreciate the captions. Click Continue when finished.
add subtitles
You are now ready to start subtitling your video. By default, the service plays 8 seconds of video at a time to allow you time to type what is being said in the video. Click the Tab key to continue to the next 8 seconds. Keep doing this until the video is transcribed—make sure to click Enter often to space the transcription of the video.
type
When finished, click Done? Next Step: Syncing.
next step sync
Your video will then play again. Click the down arrow on your keyboard or the big lavender button on the right that says Tap when next subtitle should appear to mark when each subtitle on your list should appear.
tap to sync
When finished syncing, click the Done? Next Step: Reviewing button on the bottom right.
start review
In this step, you simply watch your video to verify it plays correctly. When you are satisfied, click the Done? Submit your work button.
submit
You are then asked to provide login information. You can either create an account directly with Universal Subtitles, or use your Twitter, Google or Open ID.
login
Your video then appears with links to share it via social networking, embed it in a Web site or post as a Permalink.
share
Universal Subtitles is an easy way to subtitle a video. Depending on the video’s length, the time spent subtitling may take five minutes, or more than an hour. Our advice is to take your time and click enter often when typing. Otherwise, the transcriptions end up too long and take up too much of the video screen.

Starter: Take Control Over Windows Startup, Services, Processes

Starter is a freeware portable application that functions as a startup manager, Windows service manager and process monitor. It is very small but very powerful in functionality.
As you go on installing new applications in Windows, some of them are configured to launch themselves when Windows starts up. This slows up the start-up process and you end up hogging your system resources. You can use Starter to remove any unneeded program that is in your startup list so that it doesn’t run on startup any more and you gain back system performance.
Starter
Using Starter is pretty straight forward, you just have to deselect those apps which you don’t want. If are confused with any entry you can take the help of Google to get more info. Starter will help you with detailed information about the applications including where they are located in the hard-disk. Starter also lists all startup entries, including hidden registry entries as well as common startup folder items.
Starter doubles up as a very good process monitor. You can use it to list all the running process including details such as their current memory use, process priority, thread counts, and DLL. It also lets you stop selected process (even a Windows NT service, if you are having enough access rights).
Starter
Starter also comes with a very good, advanced service manager (better than Windows service manager).

Top 5 free file hosting websites

Though we have email facilities that allow an awesome amount of size to store but still we don't prefer them for storing or uploading files every time.Though we can use Gmail email space as storage drive but still some times we need direct link for downloading the file, some times file size is greater than the maximum upload limit of a single email. etc. are the reasons that force us to choose separate file hosting services, its better if they are free. Here is the review of top 5 free file hosting websites.

1.File dropper:
Filedropper is very nice site for hosting file. They provide direct link for downloading the file. File uploading is very easy and fast. All you need to do to upload a file is click Upload and select a file. They provide a space of 5GB as compared to Few hundred MBs of other sites of this kind. Filedropper top this list.

2.Fileqube:Fileqube is also a free file hosting site. They have a very nice interface. It is also extremely fast. When you upload a file, a link is provided to download the file, a link to remove the file, and HTML code to add to a website, etc. Unfortunately, Fileqube only allows for uploads of up to only 150MB, yet most certainly one of the best.

3.Google pages:
Google pages, where you automatically get an account when you sign up for Gmail. They provide you up to 100MB of uploading size. They even allow you to publish them on a web page that you can easily design by the help of tools present inside your account. You can create any number of the Gmail ids and with each id you get 100MB free file hosting space.

4.MyFreeFileHosting:Myfreefilehosting also has a nice interface. It includes the option to send an notification email to someone to tell them of the upload, tags to categorize the file, etc. Of course, after one uploads the file, links are given to allow for download and distribution. The maximum file size allowed is 100MB.

5. Easyshare:
This is different from the above four.Unlike other free file hosts though, Easyshare pays users for their uploads. If your upload gets downloaded 10,000 times, you’ll apparently receive $20. If you have a personalized toolbar on your website, you can receive money from their uploads through that toolbar and if you refer another person to Easyshare you’ll receive 10% of their earnings.
Another neat thing about this site is the upload options. You can upload on the site from your computer, upload using an FTP server, upload using their free software, or use a remote upload from another server. The maximum file size for a free account is 100MB.

How to bypass registration in registration protected forum thread

Usually forums consist of some kind of valuable information shared by many users over Internet .Forums are meant for open sharing of information to each other but sometimes some forums doesn't go with this Forum quality of open information sharing. They won’t allow us to view its thread without registration for this they make it password protected. This is not sure that you will found your desired information after that compulsory registration .This post will show you how to bypass the forum registration process and still read the forum thread.

Go to Google and type the search string and search it against the forum that requires registration . Example - your keyword site:theforumwebsite.com

You should then be looking at the results page with links to various forum threads from that forum. All you have to do is click on cache link below the search result instead of clicking on search result link itself. This will show you the cached version of the forum thread without the need for registration in the forum.

Actually most of the forums allow Google and other search engines to crawl through them freely but don’t allow people to browse without a registration. Meaning, only members can access the thread. When viewing cached version, you see the page that search engines crawlers captured without registration in the forum.

So now you are not required to go through that compulsory registration.Enjoy searching articles on forums without registration.

What is difference between freeware, free software & open source

Most computer users usually do not know the difference in Freeware, free software ,shareware and open source softwares. There is a lot of difference in all these terms. After studying a lot of websites I found some real good facts that I am sharing with you.

Freeware:      :Freeware software’s are available to use with no cost. Proprietary software’s can also be freeware software. Freeware software’s are generally used by companies to help developers, students and communities to develop software skills while using this freeware software, but not to loose their business potential software companies don’t give the source code of the software’s. Freeware software is different from shareware software.

Shareware:       :Shareware software’s are used for marketing purpose. Computer users can download and use a limited version of software or full version of software for a limited period of time. We can say that Shareware software is just like “Try before you buy”.

Find More Information On Background Processes In Windows With ProcessScanner

Do you want to know how many processes are running in the background of your system and how many of them are harmful? Or you think one of the processes is a virus but not sure about it? You can view the list of process by going to Task Manager, on the process tab you’ll see how many processes are running simultaneously on your system. The number of processes are shown at the bottom of the task manager, but how can you separate legitimate processes with illegitimate ones is a question.

In the Process tab you can also click on the column headers to sort by CPU and Memory Usage. Generally CPU Usage  should never really be higher than 5% to 10% while the computer is just running normally. But only if you are running a applications such as Photoshop or Illustrator, it can be higher.
mem usage
There is a useful piece of software called ProcessScanner. It offers a result page with process enlisted found on your system which gives clear and at-a-glace categorized information of the function of each process, it also advice you what action should be taken to enlisted processes. Once installed, run the program and click on Start Process Scan.
loading

It will include a detailed overview of all the processes and detailed information on each and every process, it will tell whether the process is a legitimate system process or some other application or a harmful process. It flags all the processes that are harmful, so that so you can take appropriate action against it.

The other useful feature of this program is that it points out the applications that are memory hogs, if you find out a program that has a high memory usage, you might want to uninstall it.

This can be an extremely useful shortcut. It automatically opens a website in another tab when you highlight it in the autocomplete list. How to keep USB drive safe when attached to virus infected computer system

I have faced this situation many many times. When i have to use my pen drive, which is already containing some important data that i can't afford to loose, on a shared computer system that is probably infected with viruses, i always found myself in a dilemma. If i use my USB drive on that virus infected computer system then that virus will be automatically transmitted to my pen drive also and then it might make my pen drive unreadable or data on pen drive might be lost etc. depending upon the virus activity.

But now i have found a solution for this situation. If i make my USB drive non writable then any kind of data can't be written to it,means if virus infected computer is going to transmit any virus to pen drive then it can't be written to it as USB drive is write protected.

ThumbScrew is a freeware that can be used to write-protect your USB drive so that malware or any kind of unwanted program or data from host computer doesn’t spread to your USB Drive. For using it download and launch the app, right click the System Tray icon and choose ‘Make USB Read Only’. Now nothing could be written to the USB Drive, you’re completely protected from infections spreading to your disk from your computer.

Now your pen drive is protected on that shared system but i still recommend you to use a quality anitvirus software updated regularly as your system contains more important data than a pen drive.

Two Apps To Help You Easily Find What That Windows 7/Vista/XP Error Code Mean

Windows sometimes displays very cryptic error messages like 0×80070006, 0×80070570, 0x80028CA3, 0x4D8, etc. while performing some operation and you are left clueless thinking what Windows meant to say you. Every single Windows user have faced this kind of situation some day or the other. Windows Error Code Lookup Tool, also known as ErrMsg, and Windows Error Lookup Tool, both are free little apps developed for helping you out.
Both this apps are very simple to use. All you have to do is, type in either the decimal or HRESULT error codes that Windows is displaying and they will display in English the error. These applications work really well and saves hours of random searching through Google or Bing or MSDN.

ErrMsg
Windows Error Code Lookup Tool (ErrMsg)

Other than Windows Error Code Lookup Tool, Windows Error Look up Tool is a little different. It will display a description of windows errors in English with the ability to create a note for that error. You can view and change any notes you have created with the note browser. Windows Error Look up Tool does not work now works with STOP errors, certain errors from non system modules or NTSTATUS values (thanks to the developer Gunner (see the comment below) for the update).

Easily Move and Resize Windows and Scroll in Any Window

Download Taekwindow from
http://taekwindow.sourceforge.net/download.html.
Taekwindow works in Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Windows 7, in both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of each. For this post, we tested Taekwindow in Windows XP SP2, 32-bit. The makers of Taekwindow say that Windows 2000 is no longer supported, but it might work anyway.
Taekwindow does not need to be installed. Simply unzip the downloaded file to any folder and double-click on the taekwindow.exe file to run the program.
Running Taekwindow
The Taekwindow icon displays in the system tray.
Taekwindow icon in the system tray
To use Taekwindow to move a window, hold the left Alt key down and drag on a window with the left mouse button. If you are using multiple monitors, you can use this method to move a maximized window to a different monitor.
NOTE: This post assumes you are using the left mouse button as your main button. If you have switched the mouse buttons, reverse the references to the left and right mouse buttons.
Moving a window
To resize a window, hold the left Alt key down and drag on a window with the right mouse button. If the window you are resizing is maximized, it is automatically un-maximized.
If you want to move a window to the background, click the middle button on your mouse anywhere on the window.
Taekwindow also allows you to scroll in any window under the cursor. The window does not have to have focus. Simply hold the mouse over the window and use the scroll wheel to scroll in the window.
Resizing a window
Some applications need to handle events that Taekwindow also handles. In this case, you will need to temporarily disable Taekwindow. You can do this without exiting Taekwindow completely. Left-click on the Taekwindow icon in the system tray to disable it. The icon turns gray to indicate Taekwindow is disabled. Left-click on the Taekwindow icon again to enable it.
Disabled Taekwindow icon
You can also right-click on the Taekwindow icon and select Enable Taekwindow from the popup menu to disable and enable Taekwindow.
Disabling Taekwindow using the menu
There are many settings you can customize in Taekwindow. To access these settings, right-click on the Taekwindow icon in the system tray and select Preferences from the popup menu.
NOTE: You can also double-click the Taekwindow icon to open the Preferences dialog box.
Selecting Preferences
The General tab on the Preferences dialog box displays. If you want Taekwindow to run when Windows starts, select the Start when logging on check box so there is a check mark in the box. This adds a shortcut to the Startup folder in the Start menu folder.
You can hide the Taekwindow icon in the system tray. If you do this, and you want to access the Preferences dialog box, or show the system tray icon again, double-click the taekwindow.exe file again. The Preferences dialog box displays and you can change settings and choose to show the Taekwindow icon in the system tray again for easy access.
Taekwindow can be a portable program that you run from a USB flash drive on different computers. To do this, you need to tell Taekwindow to store its settings in a taekwindow.ini file in the same directory as the taekwindow.exe file. To make Taekwindow portable, select the INI file radio button in the Settings location box.
General tab on the Preferences dialog box
Click the Keys and buttons tab to specify which Alt key to use (in the Keyboard box) and which mouse buttons to use (in the Mouse box) when moving and resizing windows. You can also turn off the feature that allows you to move a window to the back by clicking the middle mouse button on the title bar. To do this, select the Push windows back with middle mouse button on title bar check box so there is NO check mark in the box.
Keys and buttons tab on the Preferences dialog box
The Resizing tab allows you to choose the behavior for resizing windows. The default option (Closest corner/edge) resizes the window from the corner or edge that is closest to the point on the window where you click the mouse. If you want to always resize windows from the lower right corner, select the Bottom right corner radio button.
Resizing tab on the Preferences dialog box
Click the Scrolling tab to change which window is scrolled using the scroll wheel. To scroll in the window currently under the mouse cursor, select the Scroll the window under the cursor radio button. If you want to use the Windows default for this setting, and only scroll in the window that currently has focus, select the Scroll the focused window radio button.
To save your settings and close the Preferences dialog box, click OK.
Scrolling tab on the Preferences dialog box
To completely close Taekwindow, right-click on the Taekwindow icon in the system tray and select Exit from the popup window.
Closing Taekwindow from the menu
NOTE: You can also close Taekwindow using the Exit button on the Preferences dialog box. This is handy if you have hidden the Taekwindow icon on the system tray. You can simply run the taekwindow.exe file again and click Exit.
Closing Taekwindow from the Preferences dialog box
Taekwindow is a handy tool to have if you must use Windows but you are used to using Linux. It simulates the Alt-drag feature in Linux for moving and resizing windows and allows you to scroll any window under the mouse cursor, like you can in Linux.
